Nothing Else Matters

This one is a short movie by filmmaker Naotomo Umewaka. I met him when I was playing at the Up & Coming aftershowparty in Hannover. Naotomo liked the music and eventually was breakdancing in the middle of the evening. I really had fun there and so we came to talk. He now sent me a few links of films by him and i happened to like "Nothing Else Matters". Naotomo describes the film as "A 34 year old former stripper-turned-prostitute
and now a drug addict, talks about her forlorn quest for fast cash, living with AIDS, hope, and the story of her life." As well the movie won a critics prize in a NYC film festival. Enjoy!

Next Level DVS Routine By DJ Rafik

Now that´s what I´m talking about! Eversince Final Scratch came out I was wondering what the benefits of this new system would be. Not carrying records anymore simply wasn´t enough for me and while other DJs simply did that and showed up with a little bag for their laptop and soundcard I still was carrying 200 plus records with me. At least someone could have made some edits of "unplayable" songs, but no one (at least around Hannover where I live) did that. Getting an awkwardly expensive DVS for that purpose only didn´t really make up to investing 600 Eurobucks so i used to request a CD Player on gigs for my edits. Why no one in Serato ever used cuepoints back then and still only a few people do now, remains a mystery for me as well. Eversince I bought Torq I was into Controlerism. I started with a Trigger Finger Controller and now use a Nano Key (for Cuepoints, Instant Doubles & Loops) and a Nano Kontrol (for FX & Browser Control) and I must say it´s as much fun as it was back in 1994 when i got my first decks. DJ Rafik takes it to the top with 8 eight cuepoints and Traktor Scratch. Look, listen & enjoy!

The History Of The Boombox

This is a very nice documentation about boomboxes, also known as ghettoblasters. I remember having a JVC player in the early ninties which i took every place i went to skateboard. Because of batteries being so expensive, we sometimes skated a particular spot just because it had a 220V power plug somewhere. This video features Fab 5 Freddy and comes up with some interesting conclusions towards the end. Enjoy!

Lego Guns, Yeah!

Bildschirmfoto_2009-12-07_um_0

A friend of mine got a replica of an AK-47 it´s fascinating. But these here are awesome! "Fully" functional models of various guns built from Lego. You can either order kits with all required parts or just the construction manual for various discontinued models. I found this linked from a link on nerdcore, where you can read a story about a guy having a visit from a swat team for assembling the "gun" in his office. My favorite is the Semi Auto, so if want want to give me a nice christmas present...

Party Arty (D.I.T.C.) 1979 - 2008

It´s been a year now since my friend Party Arty (D.I.T.C./Ghetto Dwellas) died of undisclosed health complications. I got to know Arty when we booked A.G. for the Burnin´ Beatz HipHop Festival in 2001. A.G.´s "The 'Dirty Version" was out for a year and even though the Album missed "The Hit" it was one of the best Albums released in 1999. When A.G. told me the names of his crew for the flight tickets, one of them was Arthur Sheridan. It struck me that A.G. was going to bring that rough voice heard on his Album, better known a Party Arty. I can say we really had a good time with those guys here in Hannover. In 2002 i made it to New York and also to Patterson Projects in the Bronx, the home of HipHop. Arty and A.G. showed us around and we got to hang out with them and the rest of the Ghetto Dwellas. In the following years i made it to a lot of shows with him all around Germany and eventually booked them again myself while i was working for Faust e.V.. Arty really was a humble Person, always caring about his people and he had a voice that stood out in a million! He was going to be signed by 50 Cent, but his death put an end to his career, which nearly made him achieve his dream. The video shows Arty in his home in the South Bronx, where i´ve been visiting him. R.I.P. Homie!

Mr. Konfuze and me just finished writing our biography for web pages and stuff. It´s been more than half a year Mr. Konfuze and me have been working on our mutual musical project. For the first release on Manmade Recordings we now have to start promoting ourselves. We by now have pages on Facebook, Myspace and Soundcloud, be sure to check us out there, listen to our music, check upcoming dates and releases and last but not least, where to buy our stuff. Everything is going to be released on beautiful black vinyl discs only, so if you still have a record player you know what to do, and when you don´t buy one because it´s the only way to really enjoy the gift of recorded music!
