Korg Nano Kontrol Customisation

Imag0091

About two years ago i switched DJ tools from regular vinyl records to a DVS. After some research i went with Torq over Serato and Traktor. The Main reasons where the price tag ($ 299), the ability to use my RME RPM instead of the soundcard delivered with the Software, the features and the really easy midi implementation. So now i have several midi controllers which control functions in my software. I use a Korg nano key for Loops, Cuepoints and the instant double feature. for the internal effects i do use the nano control pictured above. When you get it from the factory all the channels look identical which, in a dim club setup, makes it quite difficult to use. So my idea was to paint it in bright colors. One color stands for an effect and since i use two turntables the colors double. The right side is for the right channel and the left for the corresponding deck. For painting it I dissembled the whole thing, taped the regions I don't want to paint and did the job with regular spraypaint. Afterwards I reassembled it and i must say, even though it could have been done more acurately i'm really satisfied with the result.

Next Level DVS Routine By DJ Rafik

Now that´s what I´m talking about! Eversince Final Scratch came out I was wondering what the benefits of this new system would be. Not carrying records anymore simply wasn´t enough for me and while other DJs simply did that and showed up with a little bag for their laptop and soundcard I still was carrying 200 plus records with me. At least someone could have made some edits of "unplayable" songs, but no one (at least around Hannover where I live) did that. Getting an awkwardly expensive DVS for that purpose only didn´t really make up to investing 600 Eurobucks so i used to request a CD Player on gigs for my edits. Why no one in Serato ever used cuepoints back then and still only a few people do now, remains a mystery for me as well. Eversince I bought Torq I was into Controlerism. I started with a Trigger Finger Controller and now use a Nano Key (for Cuepoints, Instant Doubles & Loops) and a Nano Kontrol (for FX & Browser Control) and I must say it´s as much fun as it was back in 1994 when i got my first decks. DJ Rafik takes it to the top with 8 eight cuepoints and Traktor Scratch. Look, listen & enjoy!

Nice DIY Midi Controller

Since my Korg Nano Pads recently gave up on me i decided to build a Controller myself. My Choice came to arcade buttons since i don´t need velocity for controlling Torq-Functions like cuepoints, quickloops or instant doubles. If anyone knows where to get arcade buttons for cheap prices in Germany let me know! This example shows it can be done in a professional way, enjoy.
